Limewash Stucco and Concrete in Bellevue, WA

Bellevue Limewash Painting limewashes cement-based walls in Bellevue, Washington, meaning stucco, block and poured concrete, trading a flat painted look for a softly clouded, plaster-like surface on house walls, garden structures and basements. Clean, sound cement-based surfaces are porous enough to accept it.

Since each of these alkaline surfaces drinks differently and carries its own texture, the right first step is a readiness check plus a trial area on the wall in question. Bellevue Limewash Painting limewashes stucco and concrete in Bellevue and nearby Eastside cities, including Clyde Hill, Medina, Redmond, Mercer Island, Sammamish, Newcastle and Issaquah.

Cement stucco exteriors

Smooth and sand-finish stucco pick up a gentle tonal drift under limewash, and bare or previously limewashed stucco is the easy case. Over sound acrylic paint, the limewash maker must approve a bonding primer; elastomeric coatings usually have to come off. Hairline cracks should be repaired so water stays out from behind the finish.

New stucco

An even, cloud-soft color on new stucco takes patience; limewash applied too soon can dry patchy. How long to wait is set by the product and by the state of the stucco. For reference, Romabio’s 2017 data sheet for Classico limewash gives about 21 to 28 days on new Portland cement stucco, and other systems specify their own intervals.

Concrete block and cinder block

A plain block garage, foundation or garden wall can end up looking like weathered masonry rather than utility construction. The block faces and the mortar take up liquid unevenly, which is why a scrubbed-in base coat and then a top coat give the steadiest color.

Poured concrete walls

Indoors or out, poured and board-formed concrete can soften toward a stone-like tone. Curing compounds, sealers and form-release residue all reduce absorption, so the wall is cleaned and tested for absorption before sampling.

Basement and garage walls

A limewashed masonry basement wall looks brighter and still breathes, since the traditional finish does not trap moisture behind a film. It cannot hold back active leaks or hydrostatic pressure, though; the water problem has to be fixed first.

Is your stucco or concrete ready?

Cracks, hollow-sounding patches, efflorescence, old coatings and water-repellent sealers are what a readiness check looks for. Two coatings get different treatment even though both stop absorption. Firmly bonded acrylic paint may be bonded over, where the limewash manufacturer offers a primer for it. Elastomeric coatings are a different matter: at least one major maker rules them out, and they usually have to be stripped before limewashing.

Like brick or stone, a stucco facade turns out evenly only if it is coated in mild, dry weather and the new finish is kept from rain and strong sun until cured.

Looks that suit stucco

Stucco texture comes alive in warm sand, chalk and pale clay; outbuildings and garden walls carry deeper earth colors well. To see how much movement your wall will have, brush sample boards with the same texture.
